INTELLECTAUL PROPERTY OFFICE OF SERBIA & MONTENEGRO (IPO)
Regardless of the fact that the intellectual property in our country still fails to be understood as a substantial economic development incentive, the subject gains an increasing importance in this information age. European Union develops most intensive and important normative activities in various fields including the protection of intellectual property. Considering the fact that EU member states create a supra-national community with a common internal market, the end goal of the regulations related to intellectual property is to establish a supra-national system of protection that would not hamper the free exchange of goods and services based on the protected intellectual property. European Union exerted significant influence upon our intellectual property regulations as during its creation care was taken to harmonize them with corresponding regulations of EU and World Trade Organization (TRIPS).
IPO and the CARDS IPR Project in the Western Balkans The EU’s CARDS IPR project is aimed at the promotion and protection of intellectual property in the West Balkan states. Its team is presently engaged by the Intellectual Property Office of Serbia and Montenegro on improving complete activities of the Office. The Project is making great contribution to better regional communication among the Western Balkan states by holding series of international seminars and developing other forms of professional cooperation. Of particular importance is the support the CARDS IPR Project is offering for the upgrading of our experts through contacts with European experts, improvement of office procedures, development of technical capacities of the Office and encouraging the application of intellectual property rights and enforcement laws by the judicial and executive authorities in our country. Serbia and Montenegro is looking forward to continued sharing of experiences & expertise, and the strengthening of ties and understanding in the region and with our partners in the Europe.
