3-4 November 2005: Valuation and Management of Intellectual Property Assets in Small and Medium Enterprises and Entrepreneurship, Belgrade

The Regional Workshop “Valuation and Management of Intellectual Property Assets in Small and Medium Enterprises and Entrepreneurship” will be held in Belgrade on
3-4 November 2005 under the EC-funded CARDS Regional IPR Programme in the Western Balkans. The main objective of this seminar is to educate owners and managers of SMEs about intellectual property valuation, to highlight the benefits of IP for business start-ups and to enhance the capabilities of supporting institutions with a view to facilitating the access of SMEs to IP tools.

Nenad Penezic, Vice President, Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Guriqbal Singh Jaiya, director of the SME Division, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and Emilija Spirovska, Team Leader, CARDS IPR Programme, will open the event and welcome managers, owners of small and medium-sized enterprises and the delegations of the five countries participating in the CARDS project. About one hundred participants from Serbia and Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Macedonia are expected to attend this seminar. International experts from Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland will present case studies and IP valuation methods, and organise  practical exercises, for managers and employees of SMEs and for IPR professionals from supporting IP institutions (government agencies involved with SMEs, chambers of commerce, etc.).

Seminar topics will cover most important elements of IP valuation and its techniques, marketing and branding strategies in the use of trade marks, geographical indicators and industrial design for business success, integrating IP in the business plan, exploitation of IP by SMEs in agriculture, etc.

Co-organisers of the seminar are the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Intellectual Property Office of S&M. The CARDS Regional IPR Programme is putting on this event as a means of promoting regional co-operation and helping private-sector companies to integrate intellectual property into their business approach for developing competitive positions on the international market.
