26-27 May 2005: Copyright, Collective Management and Broadcasting, Belgrade

COPYRIGHT, COLLECTIVE MANAGEMENT AND BROADCASTING

The seminar on COPYRIGHT, COLLECTIVE MANAGEMENT AND BROADCASTINGis being held in Belgrade on 26 and 27 May as part of the
EC-funded CARDS Programme on Intellectual Property Rights. The main co-organiser of the seminar is the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), together with  SOKOJ – Authors Right Protection Society and Intellectual Property Office of Serbia and Montenegro. The event is intended primarily to raise general awareness about mechanisms of collective administration and in particular to help improve relations between collecting societies and broadcasters from Serbia and Montenegro on the one hand and the Western Balkans on the other.

The seminar will be opened by Ivan Tasic, General Manager of the SOKOJ, Slobodan Markovic, Director of the Intellectual Property Office of Serbia and Montenegro, Raffaele Buompane, Team Leader for the CARDS IPR Project for the Western Balkans, and Eric Baptiste, Director General of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC). They will welcome about 50 participants from the five CARDS countries: Serbia and Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Macedonia, plus Romania and Bulgaria. International experts from countries such as France, Hungary and Germany will give lectures to government officials responsible for copyright policy, members of collective management societies from the region and representatives of media regulatory bodies, cable and broadcasting associations, national and private broadcasters and cable operators from S&M, chambers of commerce, business support agencies.

Seminar topics will cover general aspects of public communication rights, broadcasting rights in international conventions and treaties, simultaneous and unrevised transmission of broadcast and re-broadcast works, negotiations and licensing practices between collective management organisations and broadcasting organisations in other countries and in S&M.
