15-16 December 2005: IP Rights – Engine for the Economy, Tirana

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS IN SUPPORT OF THE NATIONAL ECONOMY

The main objective of the CARDS seminar in Tirana (15-16 December) will be to show government and business representatives how to implement intellectual property rights and thereby support the national economy. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Albanian Patent and Trademark Office (ALPTO) are the co-organisers of the seminar “IP Rights – Engine for the Economy” at the Hotel Tirana International. This seminar is part of the EC-funded CARDS Programme on Industrial and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the Western Balkans.

The aim is to help the public and private sectors to integrate IP into their business strategies for developing competitive positions on the international market.

Experts from WIPO (Geneva) and Germany will cover the following topics: public limits of patent protection, valuation of IPR, licensing in a modern society, structure and content of patent documentation, patent portfolio management. Case studies from the CARDS countries will also be presented.

Emilija Spirovska, Team Leader of the CARDS Regional IPR project, explained the purpose of the event: “We expect to contribute to national economies of the CARDS countries by enlarging IP community and bringing knowledge for the best use of IRP”.
