CARDS Regional IPR Project

10-11 March 2005 – Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro Seminar AW1/PU: Copyrights and Related Rights

Dedicated to Digital Rights Management, its impact on the Media Market and last development in terms of EU policy. With this event, CARDS Regional IPR project further promoted regional cooperation and help the private sector to integrate Intellectual Property in its business approach on the way to development on international market.

Seminar took place in Belgrade on in Belgrade’s hotel Metropol. Opening the meeting, Prof. Slobodan Markovic, Director of the Intellectual Property Office of Serbia and Montenegro, welcomed representatives from the European Patent Office (EPO Munich), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO, Geneva), Intellectual Federation of Phonogram Industry (IFPI, Brussels), the Business Software Alliance (BSA, London) and the delegations of the five countries participating to CARDS Programme. About 70 seminar participants took active role during the seminar discussions.

International experts spoke for the first time on the actual, international and especially European laws and conventions with focus on digital environment.

Lecturer from WIPO, Mr. Victor Vazque spoke about the contracts administered by the WIPO Internet Treaties.

Very illustrative and educational was the presentation of Mr. Ognjen Haramina with number of examples to follow the experience of Croatia with the accent on copyright infringement on the Internet.
