CARDS Regional IPR Project

AW6/WIPO: University and R&D initiative, 1-2 December 2005 – Zagreb, Croatia

The main goal of this seminar was to encourage managers, researchers, academic staff and students to use IP information and to support them in their R&D work, improve IP protection of their R&D results and maintain contacts with the IP authorities in the region.

Mr. Zeljko Topic, Director General of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), Ms. Emilija Spirovska, CARDS Team Leader from the European Patent Office (EPO) and Mr. Vladimir Yossifov, Director, Division of Cooperation with Certain Countries in Europe and Asia, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), opened the event welcoming representatives from different universities and research institutes in the Western Balkans. More than 50 participants from Croatia and the region attended the event. International experts from Germany, Switzerland and Hungary presented the use of IP systems, the use of technological information contained in patent documentation, the preparation and protection of research results for use in industry.

The seminar topics covered intellectual property rights at universities, technology transfer, commercialisation of research results at universities, strategic patent portfolio management and technology classification systems. The CARDS Regional IPR Project thereby further promotes the regional cooperation and assists all sectors in integrating intellectual property in their business approach for developing their competitive position in the international market.
