Seminar Enforcement Practice
A seminar on Intellectual Property Rights in Europe took place in Zagreb today under the CARDS Regional EU-funded project on Intellectual Property Rights managed by the European Commission, and operated by the European Patent Office (www.epo.org).
The enforcement of the IP rights is considered among the key priorities for a functional market economy, which provides an enabling environment for innovation, growth, employment and global competitiveness in the region.
This regard, CARDS Regional Programme for Intellectual Property Rights strive to create various trainings for attorneys, representatives and specialists in view of long term objectives of construction of an effective enforcement infrastructure in the five CARDS countries.
Improving the co-operation between CARDS countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro and FRY Macedonia) within the Intellectual Property (IP) institutions, engage enhancement of their technical capacity, in order to better manage and effectively protect holders of industrial and IP rights at national level. Moreover, it involves the wider effort of IP laws harmonisation in compliance with the WTO TRIPS Agreement, in the framework of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
The seminar in Zagreb promoted IP rights in terms of general awareness and explained the significance of their practical enforcement by relevant attorneys in criminal, civil and business sectors. Furthermore it demonstrated the best existing strategies in IP rights protection in criminal, civil and business sectors.
The training was targeted at achieving an integrated, multilevel approach in the knowledge of IP rights; that further on would establish a cooperation network for judges, public prosecutors, policy, and business attorneys in the Region, and as such should be considered as a part of the wider project objectives to support the needs in the countries of the region in harmonising with the EU acquis.
