The main goal of this seminar was to encourage managers, researchers, academic staff and students to use IP information and to support them in their R&D work, improve IP protection of their R&D results and maintain contacts with the IP authorities in the region.

CB10/EPO: EPIDOS EPO Patent Information Conference 2005
The EC and the EPO combined the PATINNOVA and EPO Patent Information conferences to promote the value of patents and patent information, important topical issues at the interface between intellectual property and innovation, as well as the latest developments in the retrieval of patent information and the tools available on the market.

19-21 October 2005 – Newport, UK
Seminar/EA: UKPTO: Design of innovation support campaigns
This seminar was organised for the staff of national IPOs dealing with communication/public relations/marketing/innovation support and awareness-raising activities. The United Kingdom Patent Office shared its best practice in successful IP awareness campaigns.

4-7 October 2005 – Zagreb, Croatia
EF1/PU: Operational seminar on the role of customs in combating counterfeiting and piracy
This event was organised jointly with the EC Directorate-General for Taxation and the Customs Union (DGTAXaxUD) and the State Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Croatia, with the participation of WIPO, IFPI and customs representatives of the CARDS region. The event was attended by representatives of the following companies which protect their trade marks: Nike, Panasonic, Adidas, Lacoste, and others.

27 – 28 September 2005 – Zagreb, Croatia
Seminar AW3/PU: Geographical Indications
The main objective of this seminar was to help agricultural and other manufacturers add value to their products. The seminar covered the EU framework for the protection of geographical indications relating to wines, spirits and other agricultural products. International experts from France and Italy discussed the requirements for GI registration and also international negotiations on geographical indications, etc. The seminar included a study visit for participants to the wine cellars of a number of Croatian wine producers.

19-26 September 2005 – Strasbourg, France
AW4/EA: IP management and agricultural technology
This seminar was organised by the EPO’s European Patent Academy in co-operation with the European Institute for Enterprise & Intellectual Property (IEEPI), Strasbourg and dealt with managing intellectual assets and intellectual property.

1-3 September 2005 – Opatija, Croatia
PU: V Co-operation Committee meeting
The Committee meeting brought together CARDS personnel (LCU and PMU), representatives from the project partners in the EU and at OHIM, CARDS contact persons at the national IPOs and representatives from national IPR offices in the five CARDS states.

18 – 22 July 2005 – Munich, Germany
Seminar CB5/EA: IP for Governmental Officials and Information Administrators
The seminar addressed the relationship between industrial property (IP) legislation and innovation as well as the economic impact on a national economy, IP and the public, access to IP information, particular challenges to less industrialised countries and those in transition to a market economy. It was designed to meet the needs of government officials and information administrators dealing with IP-related questions.

4 – 7 July 2005, Munich, Germany
EF3/EA: Appeal procedures at the EPO (N06-2005)
The seminar comprised lectures, case studies and discussions with technical and legal members of the boards of appeal. Quality and harmonisation in substantive examination were also addressed in this seminar.

20 – 24 June 2005, Geneva, Switzerland
LH1/EA: EPO-WIPO seminar International IP agreements – chances and risks of implementation
Seminar will review the most important IP related aspects of economic development law. It aims on providing substantial skills for analysis and assessment of proposals and offers regarding bilateral as well as multilateral trade negotiations together with necessary negotiation techniques and will give some examples of successful TRIPS implementation.

6-8 June 2005 – Alicante, Spain
AW7/OH: Workshop on trade marks and industrial designs
OHIM was the co-organiser of this workshop aimed at further harmonising the processing of trade marks and industrial designs as regards examination, opposition, appeal and cancellation between CARDS countries and the OHIM (EU) approach.

2 – 3 June 2005 - Sarajevo, BiH
Seminar EF5/PU: Copyright Enforcement Practice
Seminar main objective was to develop and extend professional practice of courts in BiH in implementation of the new Copyright law. Topics covered, besides new law on Copyright and related Rights in BiH, provisional measures and civil penalties, anti-piracy activities, specific examples from the court practice in the region etc.

Topics covered general aspects of the right of communication to the public and the right of broadcasting in the international conventions and treaties, simultaneous and unchanged transmission of broadcast works and re-broadcasting works, negotiations and licensing between Collective Management Organizations and broadcasting organizations in other countries and in S&M.

CARDS Regional IPR Project - IV Cooperation Committee Meeting
Committee meeting was opened by the Minister for Internal Economic relations of Serbia and Montenegro, Mr. Amir Nurkovic. Representatives from EC, EPO, WIPO, OHIM, and five CARDS states were present. Committee adopted work plan for the first six months in 2005 and drafted the activity plan for the second part of the year 2005
